The accidental or purposeful release of toxic substances
is a serious threat in today's society. There are literally
scores of toxic substances that may be released commercially
or employed by terrorists or other adversaries to kill, disable,
or otherwise disrupt the lives of target populations. To address
these threats, Optical Security Sensing (OSS) has developed
a radically new chemical agent detection system.
Our flagship technology, the Distributed Intelligent Chemical
Agent Sensing and Transmission (DICAST®) system provides
seamless protection against chemical attack. DICAST® utilizes
advanced optical technology integrated into fiber cables,
whose entire lengths are sensitive to chemical agents. DICAST®
sensor cables can be deployed in inexpensive "alarm"
systems, which alert the user to a change in the chemical
environment anywhere along the cable, or in distance-resolved
systems to provide detailed profiles of chemical concentration
verses length. Products developed include continuous-cable
sensors for several toxic chemical agents, for pH, and for
moisture.
